Warhammer Vermintide II: Making of Intro Cut-scene
CG intro for Vermintide II is one of the two CG videos we made for the game. Fatshark provided Rascals with the voice-over and gave our CG team free hand in coming up with the script. The cut-scene took 7 weeks from start to finish.
Warhammer Vermintide II was released in March 2018 and holds a Metascore of 82. The game broke six figure sales 6 weeks after the initial release and at the time of writing of this article won the Best Indie award from Global Games Awards 2018.
Rascals are proud to have contibuted to the project between 2016 and 2018 with cut-scenes, protagonist variants, NPCs, props and marketing assets. Check out our other blogposts about the project or keep scrolling to learn more about how we created the cut-scene.
The final intro stays faithful to the initial storyboard pitch with the exception of the map burning at the end of the video. Fatshark was supportive of the direction from the get-go.
Our CG team rehearsed narrator’s actions first on camera to get a rough idea about the timing of the key events. With the timing in place, we refined the action in animation passes.
While working on animation, we carried out the first lookdev test to confirm qualitative target for the final render. Our next goal was getting rid of the placeholders and pouring in actual assets which were undergoing fast iteration in order to find the right balance between art-deco style and Warhammer aesthetics.
Rascals completed the project was completed by a bite-sized crew just in time for integration and launch of the game on Steam in the following days. We hope you enjoy it!
